**Description:** **JOB ANNOUNCEMENT** **STUDENT INTERN** **CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (CDOT)** **Commissioner’s Office** **Number of Positions: 3** **Starting Salary: $15.89 per hour / $16.28 starting July 1** **st** **, 2024** The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) is responsible for more than 4,100 miles of streets, 413 bridges and viaducts, 368 miles of on-street bikeways, over 300,000 streetlights, 7,400 miles of sidewalks, and 3,000 signalized intersections citywide. Our mission is to keep the city’s surface transportation networks and public way safe and accessible for all users, in a state of good repair, and to be responsive to local and citywide mobility and infrastructure needs, and lower emissions from the transportation sector. In 2021, CDOT released Strategic Plan for Transportation, which set 1-3 year goals to chart a course toward building safer streets; reprioritizing transportation projects to increase access to opportunities for residents in historically neglected neighborhoods; working with CTA and regional transit agencies to expand public transportation access; creating safer streets and crosswalks to encourage walking; and expanding bike share, bike lanes, and dedicated bus lanes citywide. You will support the Director of Policy, Director of Outreach and Engagement, the Public Information Officer, and the Commissioner in the ongoing implementation of the plan, and other duties as requested. This position will be based out of the Commissioner’s Office; the Commissioner sets the strategic direction for the Department. You will provide a critical function in researching ways to help build and facilitate a transportation system that does not require car ownership. You will also assist the Commissioner and Director of Policy in researching emerging transportation issues, developing policy priorities, and tracking legislation in City Council. You will assist the Director of Community Outreach and Engagement with development and evaluation of the Department’s engagement strategy and programming. You will work with the Public Information Officer to communicate the vision of the department to through social media and the traditional media. **Internships are limited to one, 12-month, academic year. Students are limited to working one internship (lasting no more than one twelve-month academic year)** **per** **City Department.** **_ESSENTIAL DUTIES_** · Research on emerging transportation issues and summarizing findings in memo format · Tracking of City Council matters · Support policy and program development · Support the implementation of CDOT’s strategic plan · Engagement data analysis · Community engagement strategy development · Community engagement data entry · Social media tracking and content creation · Media monitoring and compiling press clips · Drafting quotes, press releases, advisories, and social media content · Updating media distribution lists · Event planning _Additional duties may be required for this position._ **LOCATION:** **2 North LaSalle Street, 11** **th** **floor** **HOURS:** **8:30 – 4:30** **Monday -** **Friday** **THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION.** **Qualifications:** **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** Must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or law school **OR** a student currently enrolled in an accredited business or data processing/ information technology school. **_Disclaimer – “Accredited” means any nationally or regionally accredited college, university, or law school where the applicant is enrolled in or has completed an Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or Juris Doctorate degree program._** **Students who are Deferred Action Recipients are eligible to apply.
