Under supervision of an RN preceptor, the student nurse extern gains experiences and confidence in providing nursing care in a hospital setting.

 

Responsibilities

Role Specific Responsibilities

Under supervision of an RN preceptor, assesses patients to determine mental, physical, and spiritual needsDocuments completely, timely, and accurately in the medical recordEstablishes a compassionate environment to provide emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and familiesUnder supervision of an RN preceptor, provides health teaching and counseling to promote, attain, and maintain the optimum health level of patientsUnder the supervision of an RN preceptor, serves as an advocate for the patient by communicating and collaborating with other health service professionalsUnder supervision of an RN preceptor, assesses, plans, implements and evaluates an individual plan of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care teamDemonstrates ability to use clinical judgement in conjunction with critical thinking to recognize, act upon, and report changes in patient conditionServes as an advocate for the patient by communicating and collaborating with other health service personnelExhibits self-directed growth by seeking educational opportunities to improve knowledge and skills Qualifications

Education

Enrollment in an accredited ADN or BSN program

Licenses and Certification

Must be a student in good standing in an accredited nursing program and has successfully completed a nursing arts course (e.g., Basics in Nursing, Fundamentals in Nursing, Nursing 101, etc.)BLS

Experience and Skills

Technical Experience:  NACOVID Vaccinations
