JOB SUMMARY

The Lead Substance Abuse Counselor provides drug and alcohol counseling to adolescent clients authorized to receive substance abuse treatment under a non-residential substance abuse or mental health program. Provides individual and group counseling and rehabilitation activities. Provides clients with orientation, training, substance abuse recovery skills and information. Support recovery from substance abuse addiction. Supervises staff Substance Use Disorder Counselors and Case Managers. Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide regular oversight and supervision of staff in Substance Use Disorder Counseling positions and/or staff in Substance Use Disorder Case Management positions to include participation in hiring, assessing performance, coaching and providing corrective action.Assign caseload and other tasks to counselors and oversee scheduling.Monitor client records in accordance with contractual requirements and for quality improvement.Provide orientation to the treatment program and the concept of sobriety.Perform psychosocial assessments, including 5-axis diagnosis, and create comprehensive client plans based on best practices in rehabilitation, recovery, and integrated services of dual disorders.Provide on-call phone coverage for staff consultation and after-hours work as scheduled by the Program Manager.Maintain a caseload; develop a comprehensive treatment plan for each assigned client and evaluate the progress of the individual clients according to the treatment plan.  Submit timely client documentation in EHR.Provide counseling and recovery services, information and education, vocational training, and relapse prevention.Assist other staff in dealing with problematic client behavior.Provide a variety of interventions including individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, collateral services, and other relevant sobriety-related services to clients.Maintain current knowledge of community resources for continued community treatment.Provide client transportation in MHS vehicle and/or personal vehicle.Comply with all MHS and program rules, policies and procedures, including HIPAA standards.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor Degree in human services related field.Valid Certification CADC I and above, or equivalent/or licensed/Pre-Licensed by the BBS.Minimum of 3 years of experience working in the field of substance abuse treatment or prevention.Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience.Fluency in English required; Fluency in Spanish highly preferred.Experience working with adolescent clients preferred.Ability to motivate, teach, and actualize staff potential and aptitude in leading cognitive-behavioral and supportive groups.Ability to work both independently and to effectively collaborate with a team.Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision.Ability to interact positively with culturally diverse populations and maintain the professional distinction between therapeutic and social relationshipsAbility to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Ability to react appropriately to emergency situations.Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite and EHR software.Valid California driver’s license and current auto insurance coverage.
