Posting Number: 20240564T Position Title: Summer Research Assistant Position Type: Temp/Intern Location: Villanova, PA Work Schedule: temporary Approximate Number of Hours per Week Up to 35 hours/week Department: 959-Center for Energy - ES2 Position Summary: The Villanova NSF ES2 Center is hiring undergraduate student research assistants to work on a variety of engineering projects in the Laboratory for Advanced Thermal and Fluid Systems for summer 2024. The Center specializes on heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermal-fluid cooling systems for electronic equipment. The student research assistant will work in the laboratory in support of sponsored research projects hosted by the ES2 Center. Duties and Responsibilities: Laboratory work includes assisting in: the design of experiment apparatus by using CAD tools; fabrication of components of the apparatus; assembly of the apparatus; debugging the system and setting up the data acquisition system; taking data from the apparatus.

General laboratory assistance including helping to prepare samples for testing and keeping the laboratory organized, safe, and clean, and miscellaneous tasks associated with keeping the laboratory functioning. Minimum Qualifications: Position is for a college student who completed 1 to 3 years of undergraduate curriculum so far. Previous basic laboratory experience required (for example, general chemistry course or general biology course from high school is acceptable). Individual must be able to work well both independently and as part of a team. Individual must have the critical thinking skills to work safely in the lab and field. Preferred Qualifications: Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours: This position is for both on-campus and off-campus work. Laboratory work includes soil classification testing, data management and analysis, maintaining a safe and clean lab, and preparing samples and equipment. Field work may include assisting graduate students with maintaining field sites, collecting samples, installing/maintaining equipment, and infiltration testing. Must be able to work in uncomfortable field conditions such as extreme temperatures, humidity, and/or rain. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
