Job Description

We are looking for an experienced product counsel to join TBD, Block’s newest business unit focused on DeFi and bitcoin. As Product Counsel, you'll have a broad range of responsibilities, working closely with the TBD team to provide legal guidance on product and feature development. You will partner with our product teams to develop new offerings while managing legal risk and ensuring regulatory compliance. As we expand our offerings, your ideas and contributions will make an immediate impact. You will work on legal issues for transformative financial products that require creative business solutions. You will report directly to the General Counsel of TBD.

This role is remote from the United States or Canada.

You Will:

Provide guidance to product, engineering, business, design and marketing teams on issues related to all TBD products and features throughout the entire product development lifecycle

Draft terms of use, product policies, and disclosures, and implement related processes

Provide business-oriented advice by balancing risks and business reward

Remain up-to-date on relevant global industry, crypto, financial regulations, consumer protection, regulatory, advertising, IP, and privacy laws and regulations to provide an ongoing ability to provide risk-tolerant, compliance-oriented guidance

Develop trusted relationships with business partners and stay informed on key product developments

Work with other cross-functional teams (IP, privacy, tax, compliance, finance, security, and outside counsel) to provide seamless support to business partners

Cultivate creative ideas and insights into how legal frameworks can support new product developments

Qualifications

You Have:

10+ years of combined, relevant experience in law firms, in-house legal departments, or governmental agencies.

Sound business navigation skill, and creativity solving problems

Experience with analytics, project management, and strong collaboration with partners

Experience working with teams and contributing individually

Work in an evolving and growing environment that is prone to changes

A JD and active membership in at least one state bar 

Even Better:

Familiarity with launching products and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space

Experience with bitcoin, FinTech regulations, cross-border payments

An interest in bitcoin

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $217,800 - USD $326,800
Zone B: USD $202,600 - USD $303,800
Zone C: USD $191,700 - USD $287,500
Zone D: USD $185,200 - USD $277,800
