Technical Development Specialist (Texas)
Position Summary: Co-create and deliver consistent technical training programs to maintenance associates, particularly Customer Service Representatives and Technicians, within our organization. To identify needs or opportunities of both curriculum enhancements and course additions relevant to our maintenance model and practices. Advise and pilot the proper delivery of training programs to leverage skill building techniques while reinforcing maintenance processes and procedures. Support locations, trainers and corporate maintenance special teams by providing hands-on evaluation for process improvements and coaching for team and individual performance improvements. You will work closely with the business to ensure that associates receive effective support. 
  Major Responsibilities:  • Conduct training via a classroom and hands-on learning environment to service department associates at all levels to include maintenance-specific systems, applications and procedures.  • Co-develop the curriculum for identified training courses needed including training aids to be used in training. Pilot the developed course, make adjustments and roll the new training out to the Technical Development Trainers. Shadow and coach peer trainers to drive consistent and accurate delivery.  • Review training material developed by the team for technical accuracy.  • Create summaries for all classes to report out to local service management. Support/conduct follow up evaluations to measure effectiveness of training and recommended content/delivery improvements.  • Identify changes to and additional collateral for Penske classroom/hands-on and online training. Keep content updated and relevant to new technologies and procedures.  • Advises on updates to technical and user manuals to support use of company specific systems, applications and procedures. Ensures material is accurate and reflects current standards.  • Maintains certifications required for technicians and CSR’s, excluding the TCP  • Other projects as assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications:  • High School diploma or equivalent required • Vocational/Technical degree, Associate’s degree, or Bachelor’s degree preferred • At least 8 - 10 years as a technician in the heavy-duty trucking or similar industry  • At least 3 - 5 years previous instructor or coaching experience in a classroom and/or hands-on environment • 608 and 609 EPA certified  • Advanced knowledge of safety practices, Penske Maintenance procedures and processes, Penske service tools and systems  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to make technical information easy to understand for a learning environment  • Some experience with Microsoft office tools  • Ability to travel – 70% required  • Completion of various self-paced/online vendor training and/or completion of the Technician Certification Program  • Excellent listener, communicator, and presenter. Easily able to engage the audience and have an approachable presence.  • Process oriented - Penske PM training: DE/ME, LG/RG and an in-depth knowledge and understanding of US DOT /Canadian provincial regulations  • Shop Diagnostic system knowledge: ability to effectively navigate the Penske launcher, all vendor software and website navigation for service information  • Understanding of fault codes, reason and course of actions to correctly and efficiently diagnose and repair  • Ability to work independently with organization and time management skills  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job  • Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required.    Physical Requirements:  -The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
