Position Title: Temporary - Mechanical Specialist CL1 (Watch Engineer) - Part-time (id:78769) Campus: Orono Department: Facilities Management - OFM Bargaining Unit: Temp Salary Band/Wage Band: N/A Location: Orono ME Statement of the Job: The Watch Engineer performs skilled work in the operation and maintenance of multi-fuel high pressure boilers and turbines used in the production of steam and electricity. This temporary position pays $24.63/hr. Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: + Operates multi-fuel high pressure boilers, co-steam generation turbines, steam turbine feed water pumps, condensate pumps, air compressors, I.D. fans, F.D. fans, oil pumps, booster + Continually inspects the heating plant to insure proper operation of all equipment. + Records indicator, meter, gauge, fuel use and other instrument readings in a log book. + Operates multiple valves and complex machinery to regulate material input to boilers and steam output. + Maintains a variety of operational records, logs, and reports. + Interprets data to make decisions about regulating and/or adjusting controls. + Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. + Makes daily operating decisions and takes appropriate action in emergencies. + Does preventive maintenance such as oiling and cleaning on boilers and all auxiliary equipment; changes guns as needed. + Ignites boilers and places them in or out of service according to condition by following complex procedures. + Blows down boilers and tubes. + Is responsible for good housekeeping at the heating plant. + Oversees feed water testing and treatment About the University: The University of Maine is a community of more than 11,900 undergraduate and graduate students, and 2,500 employees located on the Orono campus, the regional campus in Machias, and throughout the state. Qualifications: Required: + High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.). + High Pressure Boiler License, stationary steam license strongly preferred + At least three years related experience + Safety principles; + Valid Maine driver’s license + Ability to work rotating shifts + Work environment may include unpleasant odors, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, excessive noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, gases, dust, and poor ventilation. + Position requires lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing stairs and ladders, standing, kneeling, stooping, balancing, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting and repetitive motions. + Equipment use and troubleshooting; + Performing manual labor; + Ability to understand Material Safety Data Sheets; + Ability to pass required safety training; + Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
