SMMART is the cutting edge, flagship program of the Knight Cancer Institute’s Precision Oncology program. Our name stands for Serial Measurements of Molecular and Architectural Responses to Therapy, and we are designed to change the way we approach cancer research and treatments.  SMMART has the ambitious goal of developing innovative cancer treatment regimens that last longer (are more durable) and allow better quality of life (are more tolerable) for patients with cancer at all stages. Through comprehensive and longitudinal analysis, the SMMART program evaluates each patient’s individual cancer tumor with the mission to understand why standard therapies often stop working, and to develop novel combinations that may stop cancers from becoming resistant to cancer drugs.

We work to support the conduct of translational clinical research, aimed at improving the lives of people and families with cancer, by applying innovative strategies for cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment that is uniquely tailored to each patient.  We support this model through proactive, high quality, and efficient study management in compliance with federal regulations and local policies and procedures. We navigate the complex world of oncology and clinical studies, and work with a very vulnerable and sick population.

 

We are seeking a motivated TI Clinical Research Assistant 2 (Clinical Research Coordinator) who is eager to learn and interested in joining our highly dynamic team whose goal is to change how we attack cancer.

Function/Duties of Position

The SMMART TI Clinical Research Assistant 2 (Clinical Research Coordinator) will be responsible for assisting senior study coordinators with various duties related to SMMART clinical trials. This position will have direct patient contact, collect and procure biological samples (such as biopsy tissue and blood) in custom preservation formats, and may perform other non-invasive duties, such as ECGs, as applicable. This position will participate in many aspects of specimen preservation, distribution, and shipping; may assist the study team with data entry, data collection, and chart review; assemble study charts and documentation; order medical records; assist in the maintenance of regulatory documents; and assist leadership with other program-related duties.

 

Level of research responsibility for this position will require close supervision. This position will be expected to complete responsibilities with oversight and requires some innovation and problem solving. Depending on experience, this position may also coordinate non-treatment related studies with oversight by the clinical research manager or senior study coordinator. This position will assist the SMMART Clinical Research Manager with other projects and administrative research and office-related duties as needed.

 

The TI Clinical Research Assistant 2 (Clinical Research Coordinator) may also assist in the continuing education of key stakeholders (physicians, residents, interns, nurses and other related personnel) for compliance to and knowledge of SMMART clinical trials and study activities. This position always promotes the mission of the Knight Cancer Institute through our professional standards of customer service, reliability, productivity, professionalism, accuracy, timeliness and problem-solving.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

Primary responsibility of tissue acquisition and procurement (e.g., biopsy tissue and blood collections),Responsible for biospecimen kit preparation and distribution, Will assist study team in coordination of patient study requirements and visits to ensure appropriate completion, as directed by SMMART clinical trial schedule of events,Assemble patient study charts,Limited study data entry,Limited assistance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) and compliance activities,Assist in dissemination of SMMART clinical research information to program stakeholders,Additional duties as assigned. Required Qualifications

Education and experience:

 

Bachelor's degree in relevant field OR

Associate's degree AND 2 years of relevant experience OR
3 years of relevant experience OR
Equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

Required Competencies:

Ability to prioritize multiple tasks with competing deadlines, and ask questions when clarification is needed,Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills: both written and verbal,Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems,Proficient with computers running Windows and PC applications (e.g. MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint),Demonstrated excellent customer service skills both on the phone and in person,Possesses the energy and drive to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously,Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships,High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
