Summary:

Provides scheduled and non-scheduled services for the movement of patients to from the Diagnostic Imaging department and nursing/clinical areas by ensuring optimal patient comfort and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION
High School graduate or equivalent
EXPERIENCE
Prior experience in a healthcare setting in some support role is preferredPrior experience in patient transfers and the use of assistive equipment is desiredPrior experience with hospital computer information system preferredBasic office experience with telephones, copier, fax machine preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Ability to independently assist most patients from bed or chair to wheelchair, and, with one or more assists, move patients from bed to stretcherAbility to independently transport patients pushing wheelchairs and one additional device (oxygen, IV pump) or to push stretcher and one device (IV pump), including navigating crowded hallways, negotiating turns, and boarding elevatorsAbility to hear high-pitched or low-pitched sounds, hear ordinary conversationAbility to see with near activityWithin 60 days of beginning this job, must acquire competence in the following skills:Must be able to connect and regulate a portable oxygen deviceMust be able to manage IV tubing and maintain IV pump to preserve battery lifeMust pay strict attention to detail and maintain alertness to detect evidence of changes in patient status as well as equipment malfunctionsAbility to manage own time effectively and anticipate changes in workflowMust possess patience and maturity in dealing with patients and families as well as medical staff and other hospital personnelAbility to tolerate highly charged emotional situations, such as when called to a cardiac arrestAbility to work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the hospitalGood general health necessary in order to stand and walk most of the day
WORKING CONDITIONS
