The Transportation Director leads all aspects of TCS transportation capabilities including inbound to DCs (domestic, import), outbound to stores, outbound to customers, and customs trade compliance. The role drives performance employing best-in-class vendor partners, technology tools (customized and package solutions), procurement activities, and budgetary responsibilities. This leader possesses strong analytical and project management abilities demonstrating a track record of consistently achieving best-in-class KPIs across quality, on-time performance, and costs. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position.

Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesLead teamsHires and develops the best talent as needed, and raises the bar for other people managers in the teamLeads, coaches, motivates, and develops direct reports and extended teamsModel TCS leadership competencies, including customer focus, collaboration, driving results, effective communication, managing complexity, and othersDevelop leadership, business, and industry expertise in teamsEnsure optimal performance: financial, operational, and trade complianceManage service provider procurement process to ensure competitive responses, thorough analysis, and a high-integrity process that results in the best overall solutionsEnsure effective execution across inbound and outbound product flow. Includes leveraging internal and external technology tools to balance truck utilization / cost with speed / service.Ensure timely and accurate freight invoice auditing / categorization / accruals / summary reportingLead financial reforecasts for assigned cost categoriesMonitor, maintain, and adhere to service provider contract termsParticipate in annual sustainability effortsDrive continuous improvement within and across functionsCollaborate with service providers, merchandising / planning, DC operations, store leadership, technology, and accounting / finance.Define options, make optimal choices, and validate resultsAct as project manager on key initiativesAct as a Subject Matter ExpertUnderstand TCS business model, market differentiation, and how to support it via TransportationStay current and inform stakeholders on industry trends, new legislation, and global, national, and local events that impact the flow of goods while implementing contingency plans to mitigate riskIdentify, quantify and communicate transportation impacts related to actual or proposed changes in the businessRepresent the companyParticipate in cross-functional employee engagement activitiesParticipate as appropriate in industry trade groupsExperience and Skills RequiredCollege degree in Supply Chain Management, Transportation Management, or a related fieldMinimum 10 years of transportation management experience in a multi-site distribution network, preferably in retailMin 5 years managing other people managersSignificant experience leading transportation functions with similar scope in complexity, spend, and team size, ideally within a retail environment5+ years of procurement experience within domestic linehaul / FTL, import ocean, and small parcel / residential LTL transportation modes. Experience in all three is a plus.Proficiency with two or more custom or enterprise systems, including TMS, WMS, supply chain visibility, and invoice auditing systemsDemonstrated hands-on data analysis and summarization skills, including advanced Excel and/or MS Access / SQL skills. Experience developing ad hoc reporting in enterprise tools (Cognos, etc) is a plus.Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an environment with multiple stakeholders and – at times – conflicting goalsExcellent communication and negotiation skillsAbility to communicate clearly and effectively in a professional manner, both orally and in writing, at all levels within and outside the organizationAbility to prioritize planned and reactive work on a daily basis, while maintaining progress on multiple prioritiesDemonstrated professional curiosity
