DEFINITION Provides instruction in trade and vocational subjects and supervises patients or inmates at a County hospital or institution. CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS Positions allocated to this classification report to higher-level management and are distinguished by their responsibility for preparing committed individuals to become productive and contributing members of society by providing training in trade and vocational skills necessary to gain employment and in developing socially acceptable attitudes and interests. Incumbents provide individual and group instruction and are responsible for supervising the conduct of the students while in the classroom or workshop. Essential Job Functions Supervises the training of inmates in the use of shop equipment by instructing them in printing, bindery, and print-finishing operations: reviewing their work; maintaining workflow; advising them of those areas needing improvement; suggesting means of overcoming deficiencies; evaluating work; etc. in order to ensure: the maximum participation of inmates; adequate production levels; inmates achieve and maintain self-sufficiency. Supervises the use of equipment by reviewing/inspecting the work; providing guidance and technical expertise; monitoring; training; coaching; etc. in order to: a) ensure proper utilization of equipment, tools, and supplies and b) prevent accidents to inmates and employees.
