Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) is responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight for all academic programs, faculty development, assessment of student learning, accreditation, and budget management. The VPAA is also responsible for leading and supporting faculty and academic staff in the delivery of instruction that meets Pacific Oaks College’s goals for academic excellence and is responsible to contribute to the development of sound academic policies and processes that support the academic goals of Pacific Oaks College. This position is integral in fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that engages students in the learning process while promoting student success and advancing the college’s mission. The VPAA reports directly to the President.

The VPAA reports directly to the College President and is a member of the President’s Cabinet.  The position is located on the Pasadena (CA) campus. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Oversee the development, maintenance, and assessment of academic programs to ensure alignment with industry standards, accreditation requirements, and emerging trends in higher education. Supervise all academic aspects of the college including but not limited to instruction, faculty scheduling and overloads, outreach, and student grievance.Oversee faculty and academic staff recruitment, hiring, and professional development activities;Provide advisory recommendations to the President on all academic appointments, promotion, and teaching loads and ensure that such processes comply with the terms of faculty agreements;Provide academic input to institutional enrollment management and retention efforts.Lead the strategic academic planning process for the college by working with operations, chairs, faculty, committees and governance groups to assure the delivery of high quality, effective academic programs that meet the campus’ fiscal, operational, and quality goals Assure that academic programming and processes meet the minimum standardized structures and content established by the college;Ensure program and institutional compliance with criteria for professional accreditation and state certificationOversee the preparation of sound annual budgets for the academic departments and ensure compliance with these budgets. Allocate academic resources to best support the academic goals of the departments and the campus. Mentor department Chairs in budget development and utilizationRecruit and retain diverse and qualified faculty and staffImplement faculty governance structures and establish regular communications with the leadership of Faculty CouncilDevelop and recommend major academic, student, and faculty policies to the President to assure innovation, quality, continuous improvement, and growth of POC Support and participate in the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of TrusteesAssess, encourage, and help develop administrative skills in POC faculty membersPerforms other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

A proven track record of success in recruitment.Demonstrated academic leadership, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and good judgment.Ability to formulate and articulate sound policies and demonstrated ability to identify, resolve, and consult on a wide range of administrative and personnel issues with a clear sense of institutional needs and priorities.Strong organizational and management skills.Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of diversity, inclusion and equity.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

A terminal degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution is required.

Experience:

A history of progressively responsible and successful experience as an academic administrator at the dean level or above required.A strong record of academic leadership, including experience with all aspects of program review and online education.Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, direct assessment of student learning and program effectiveness and development of policy to enhance academic units within the College and with national accrediting bodies.Experience with undergraduate and graduate programs.Demonstrated experience in accreditation.Demonstrated experience in curriculum and faculty development.

Compensation & Benefits

This opportunity is budgeted at $150,000.00-168,750.00 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
