Job Summary

The Divisional Merchandise Manager provides direction and vision for At Home to develop and execute merchandising strategy to coordinate the assortments and visual presentation of product that maximizes sales. Provides dynamic leadership to positively impact business initiatives and brings a track record in managing successful retail businesses and proven experience in merchandising. Establish and execute control-related standards and procedures.

Key Roles and Responsibilities Leadership - Manages multiple Buyers in the development of specific categories and product lines to deliver merchandise with tremendous consumer appeal and value.  Motivates and develops merchant teams into future leaders. Merchandising- Evaluates and authorizes the buyer’s vendor selection and participates in market appointments as necessary. Champions vendor relationships and communication. Manages merchandise and marketing strategies to maximize sales and profitability, including directing the product development process and reviewing merchandise selection, assortments and key item development. Oversees line reviews / style outs. Monitors the Best / Worst Sellers and Never Outs. Critiques Sales and Gross Margin per Square Foot performance analysis for profit and mix opportunities. Directs the Merchandise Quarterly Performance Reviews. Financial Planning- Establishes Class level sales and inventory targets. Directs and the review and flow of goods. Champions the buying team’s adherence to the company’s planning calendar. Partners with Planning to conduct the Business Reviews and Plans. Open-to-Buy Monitoring- Leads the development of the open-to buy forecast and ensures that Open to Buy is spent appropriately. Participates in the bi-monthly forecasting of sales and inventories through the OTB review process. Adjusts target inventory levels as changes occur to the business strategy and works with Store Operations on space changes required in the stores. Evaluates and approves the development and execution of aged inventory exit strategies. Reviews vendor to store receipt flows, and actual to planned receipts. Directs the monitoring of inventory productivity (WOS and turnover) and the analysis of vendor profitability (markup, markdowns, damages, etc). Pricing and Marketing- Orchestrates pricing strategy and execution. Reviews target markup analysis and guidelines. Monitors and authorizes financial impact of price and cost changes. Oversees the accurate input of price changes on line. Supervises and approves all promotions and price changes. Visual Merchandising - Coordinates and develops in-store presentation of vignettes and endcaps each quarter. Interfaces with Store Operations and Marketing departments to ensure in-store and on-line presentation accurately represents the products, seasons and trends.   Develop Feature Tables and Add On items to drive additional sales and UPT’s.

 

 

Qualifications and Competencies Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred History of the determining what events to execute based on past successes. Is a trend leader and is respected buy the entire team. Works well with all the merchant/creative and marketing teams. Understanding of our stores and labor model.  Enables self-help shopping environment for our customers.  Works well with Store Operations and the field. Strong business and financial analysis skills Proven ability to create and execute a sound business strategy Strong retail math acumen, including elements of markup, margin planning, open to buy, inventory productivity measures Managerial and leadership skills Strong communication and negotiation skills Ability to build / maintain strong Vendor partnerships Willingness to travel, including overseas 10+ years of progressive merchant experience Ability to analyze marketing data and drive successful sales growth Guide and lead the Buying Offices into trends that would resonate with the customer and drive demand Strong verbal and written communication skills Strong project management and organization skills Works well with the merchant team as well as cross functional teams Strong decision making ability
