This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Wastewater Treatment Plant Technician to join the team at out Questa, New Mexico plant.  Be involved in projects with our Mining Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

In this role you will be responsible for performing and overseeing operations and maintenance (O&M) of the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Facility, and associated site structures.  

Your Impact

Assist colleagues in the water treatment plant process with monitoring and adjustments. Perform data collection and data entry of process and other operations information into operations logbooks up to 6 times per day. Perform filter press operation up to 12 times per day. Manage disposal of treatment residuals and waste according to site requirements and applicable regulations Monitor, operate and maintain extended systems critical to plant process (including QA/QC, chemical feeds, utility systems, influent  pumping systems and ancillary treatment systems sources, and lift stations). Perform operation and maintenance of heavy mobile, construction type, equipment for offloading deliveries, delivering filter cake to the on-site repository, performing building maintenance and performing snow removal. Assist maintenance personnel with repairs and maintenance, including grounds maintenance, as required.   Perform inspection programs to ensure WTP effluent quality meets NPDES permit and other applicable regulatory requirements Complete training on assigned tasks. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. 

  Who You Are

   Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. Familiarity with WTP operations including sedimentation, clarification, chemical addition and solids handling process systems. At least one year of plant operations experience. Ability to obtain a 40-hour OSHA HazWOPER certificate or have a current certificate. Ability to safely operate a company vehicle. Ability to operate heavy mobile, construction type equipment. Good understanding of Health and Safety practices and mechanical aptitude. Ability to complete shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary (shifts can be 12-hours per day). Ability to lift up to 50 pounds several times per day. Ability to walk up and down stairs and on unimproved areas of the site several times per day. Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request. Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

Preferred Qualifications

New Mexico wastewater treatment operator certification "D" level or higher. Two (2) years or more operating an industrial wastewater treatment plant. Experience with membrane filtration systems. 2 years of progressively more responsible plant operations experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
