Job Description

Day Shift: Mon-Fri 6am-2:30pm

Job Overview

Ensures that pumps, conveyers, blowers, chlorinators, vacuum equipment and others waste water treatment equipment are functioning properly. Monitors equipment for potential failures and may make minor repairs or adjustments as needed. Collects water samples for chemical analysis.

Responsibilities

Monitors all flows into and out of the waste water equipment. Water and wastewater treatment plan and system operators manage a system of machines, often through the use of control boards, to transfer or treat water or wastewater.

Water and wastewater treatment plant and system operators typically do the following:

Add chemicals, such as ammonia or chlorine, to disinfect water or other liquids

Inspect equipment on a regular basis

Monitor operating conditions, meters, and gauges

Collect and test water and sewage samples

Record meter and gauge readings and operational data

Operate equipment to purify and clarify water or to process or dispose of sewage

Clean and maintain equipment, tanks, filter beds, and other work areas

Follow U.S Environmental Protection Agency regulations

Ensure safety standards are met.

Works in conjuncture with outside pumping contractors and local contractors to assist as needed.

Maintain clean waste water building, flume and equipment.

Perform other duties assigned.

Qualifications

Requires high school diploma, or equivalent.

2-5 Years’ experience as a wastewater operator. State of IL Wastewater License

Bakery Industry, Understanding of commercial bakeries and bakery equipment.

Understands the water and wastewater process, along with operation of the equipment relative to the wastewater process.

Oral and written communication – effective.

Personal Computer Skills – Literate with MS Excel, Word.

Physical Requirements

 

Ability to sit (5%), stand (25%), walk (25%), kneel/squat (25%), and bend (20%) for 8 hours. Ability to lift approximately up to a maximum of 75 pounds, approximately 2 times per week from floor to waist. Ability to reach overhead various times per day and to ground various times per day. Climbing stairs and ladders various times per day. Ability to push/pull refrigeration compressors, 55 gallon barrels, motors, gearboxes, and panels weighing 100‑450 lbs. upper body approximately various times per day and whole body various times per day.

Hand tools, grinder, welder, oxylnace torch, pipe threader, benders, hard hat, safety glasses, meters, and cutters.
